August Moonrise

£1,800.00

Oil on canvas, 91×56cm unframed (2025)

Inspired by the poem “August Moonrise” by Sara Teasdale.

And the hazy orange moon grew up
And slowly changed to yellow gold
While the hills were darkened, fold on fold”

In August because of its position near the horizon during moonrise, it often takes on a stunning, vibrant golden or orange colour. The traditional name for the August full moon is Sturgeon Moon, it originates from the Native American tribes who knew there were many Sturgeon fish in the Great Lakes at this time.
